The map below shows the areas that we explored on this day.

I have snorkelled in many places, but never seen anything as colourful and amazing as this one.
After this underwater adventure, we took a relatively long drive on an unfinished road to a recently discovered location. It has no name as far as I know, so we called it a White Canyon. It was found when a new road was being built in this area. They did not complete the building, so the ride was rough. A 15-minute hike from the car led through the remains of an old settlement. They don't know who or when lived there. All they found were the remains of an old dwelling in the cave and numerous bones of people who had lived there.
Until approximately 50 years ago, the majority of Socorans lived in shallow caves, which are plentiful throughout the region. Many still do. A cave provides a cool, safe roof, often contains some water, and does not require building a house of stones. There is almost no usable wood on the island that could be used for construction. I've seen many of these shallow caves that are still used as a temporary shelter by farmers and shepherds.
The White Canyon was an absolute beauty. The water was incredibly clear, and jumping into it was not negotiable. We spent a considerable amount of time there, hiking up the stream and playing with the waterfalls.
